Death has reared its decimated head.
At the top of the mountain pass,
Winds howl. Lungs burn.
Nauseous. Delirious.
Feet planted firmly on solid ground,
Peer into Dali at the top of the world.
Face-to-face with mortality.
Breathe.
The wind howled and pierced through the thin air. The world felt vast and indifferent, yet strangely intimate.
There was no silence. Only the atmosphere’s relentless presence.
It took two days to reach this point, and by the time I arrived, I was deep in the effects of high-altitude sickness.
With my head throbbing, stomach in knots, and in a dreamlike state, I relied on intuition and muscle memory.
Sometimes when you reach the top of a mountain, you find that the true beauty of life is in our very own mortality.
This photograph is part of a series of landscapes captured on an excursion into the wilderness of the Chilean Andes.
This region of the world is one of the most surreal landscapes I have ever encountered with its harsh winds, salt-laden air, and terrain that feels more Martian than earthly.
The goal of my work is to keep it grounded in truth and dignity. I aim to capture what’s real, even when it’s uncomfortable.
This image holds for me a sense of extremity and stillness, of beauty and death, in fragile balance.
